Let’s start with introducing myself; my name is Sherry Lee and I’m the designer and owner of the lifestyle brand, Esselle. Everyone asks where the name Esselle comes from - it’s literally the phonetic spelling of my initials, S.L.
Before owning my own business, I worked various corporate jobs and never stuck with the same industry; I even pursued a singing career (that’s another lifetime ago)... Eventually I went back to school and got a Master’s degree in User Experience and Web Design.
All that pursuit in finding my dream career gave me very little insight into what I wanted to do but rather, what I didn’t want to do.
Finally, as life always have a funny way of presenting your paths to you – I was given an opportunity to start an online shop while I was in graduate school. I took the opportunity to begin my side hustle; while nothing amazing happened – certainly no overnight success that those business coaches on Facebook ads paint you to see – it was a deep learning curve on what a startup small business life would look like.
And I love it.
In 2016, I took the leap to work on Esselle full-time and I haven’t looked back since. To be able to breathe life into my designs and bring joy to those who purchase my work gives me the sense of purpose I was looking for all those years ago.
Today, I still hand paint the majority of the items in our line. I carve out time every week and put on an apron to do the handy work – painting, pouring resin, sanding and marbling.
My design principle is very simple – modern, artful and minimal.
And my mission is even more simple - to continue to inspire and bring delight in all occasions – from entertaining to weddings and gifting.
